Sponsor a flag for 5K route: Honor someone you love, help cemetery expenses

The Chester Cemetery Board is holding its sixth annual Sponsor a Flag program to raise money to cover the cemetery's maintenance costs and to place flags purchased to honor loved ones along the route of the Chester Kiwanis's Memorial Day weekend 5K Race, to be held on Saturday, May 25 (please see related story at chroniclenewspaper.com). In 2014, the first year of the fundraiser, 276 American flags were sponsored. Last year, the board was able to place more than 500 flags further along Main Street and the 5K route. The flags are placed by Chester's Boy Scout Troop 152 on Main Street from the Chester Cemetery to the Walton Engine & Hose Firehouse and continuing downtown along Main Street. If you would like to honor someone, whether veteran or civilian, by sponsoring a flag, please call Catherine at 469-2730, Joan at 469-4208, or Betty Ann at 742-4077.
