Josephine M. LaCatena passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goshen. She was 91 years old.

The daughter of Gabriele and Concetta Del Vecchio Palmieri, she was born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Manhattan, N.Y.

Josephine devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was more than a member of St. Thomas in Cornwall, she was a true angel on earth.

Everyone will remember her as the most loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a passion for God, family and cooking. Josephine made everyone feel special and welcome in every occasion. Her smile and positivity enveloped all with a blanket of warmth and care that was absent of any judgement. She could talk about anything with anyone and leave a lasting impression that made you feel blessed and thankful just to know her.

With an open heart and a song deep in her voice, Josephine was a mother figure to everyone she laughed with and touched. Everyone called her mom.

Survivors include her beloved children: Martin LaCatena and his wife Edy of Pine Bush; Joseph LaCatena and his wife Regina of Mountaindale, NY; Carmela Ammirati and her husband Michael of Huntsville, Alabama; and Angela Howard and her husband Alexander also of Huntsville, Alabama; her grandchildren: Martin, Janelle, Jarod, Stephanie, Jessica and Joseph; and by her great grandchildren: Dominic, Nicholas and Tyler.

She was predeceased by her husband Angelo LaCatena, her brother Tony Palmieri, her son Generoso “Gino” LaCatena, and her adoring grandson Dante LaCatena.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at Smith, Seaman and Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave. in Monroe.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe.

Interment will follow at St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be limited occupancy and we ask you to please adhere to the state regulations regarding face masks and distancing.
