If you have driven past the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center over the last few weeks, it would be hard not to notice the large production trucks parked in front of the venue.

What was happening in the hamlet of Sugar Loaf?

A movie titled “Reimagined” was being filmed on site at the theater. “Reimagined” is a story about a young boy who, after the loss of his mother, realizes he must save the production of the town’s annual holiday pageant that his beloved mother created.

Producer Chris Bongirne describes the film as a coming-of-age movie with a Christmas theme, having both comedy and drama, and musical elements. In addition to Sugar Loaf, he said they filmed in other locations around the Hudson Valley including the Bardavon in Poughkeepsie, KuBe Art Center in Beacon and several sites in Middletown.

“The Town of Chester has been wonderful,” Bongirne said, citing the hospitality the crew received while in town, and adds that “the theater is amazing.” While in town the cast and crew enjoyed local accommodations and restaurants.

In starring roles are Joel McHale, known for sit-coms “Community” and “Animal Control,” Paula Patton of “Precious” and “Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol,” Josh Holloway, best known for “Lost,” and young actor Yonas Kibreab, who will star in Pixar’s upcoming film “Elio.” Some locals were hired for background cast as well.

“Reimagined” is an independent film that has not yet been picked up, but Bongirne said it will be “shopped around” once they have a rough cut. He is hoping to have it released by this coming holiday season.
