Keith Parsons makes his case for Re-Election to the Warwick Board of Education

My name is Keith Parsons and I am asking for your support to be re-elected to the Warwick Valley Central School District Board of Education. I am a district resident for over 19 years and I am currently working in the pharmaceutical industry. My wife and I have been together for over 25 years and have three children, all currently enrolled in the district.

It has been my honor to serve as a trustee for the past 9 years, serving this past year as President and the three prior as Vice-President. I am proud to be part of this community and of the work we have accomplished since being elected. When I ran for the board nine years ago, two schools had closed and there was a $6 million budget gap. I spoke of relying less on state aid, increasing school board transparency and restoring trust and this is exactly what happened. As a fiscally conservative person, I am proud to say that since being elected, taxes have risen an average of 1.62% per year and this year, as President, we have introduced the first negative tax levy since the tax cap was put in place. In the past nine years, educational programs have increased, costs of operations have decreased and taxes have been held within or under the state mandated tax cap. We have added tuition students, rental income, cost savings renewable energy, as well as having three tax-neutral capital improvement projects totaling almost $30 million. All of this is in addition to having two Blue Ribbon Elementary Schools, 4 Green Ribbon Schools, our HS being a NY State Rewards school and being a recognized community for music education.

We have become the district of choice in the area and one that others strive to mimic. My reasons for seeking re-election are simple: to promote responsible fiscal decisions, continue to bring fresh ideas, and look for creative solutions. My desire to seek re-election is also out of a strong will to strengthen our community and give our children the best education possible. My commitment is the same as it has always been, an unwavering intensity to do what is right and represent everyone: students, parents, teachers and taxpayers. It is with all of the reasons above that I ask for your vote on Tuesday, May 17th.
