Jeremy Zweig announces his bid for Goshen Town Board

Those of us who live in Goshen are lucky. It’s beautiful, historic and has a warm community of caring Goshenites. We are hard workers, innovative thinkers and dedicated volunteers who support each other and look ahead with optimism.

I’m running for Goshen Town Board to help make the most of the amazing community we have built as we prepare for what’s next.

As I’ve spoken with other Goshenites about this election, what I’ve heard more than anything is that they want a plan for our Town’s future, want to be involved in how it develops and want to see accountability from elected town leadership.

Put simply, they want ownership over how the town is run. That won’t come easily – it requires a fundamental change in direction from our town government, and I’d like to be a part of that progress.

My goal is to empower our residents and local businesses, elevate their successes, advocate for their efforts and problem-solve when things go sideways. As a Town Board member, I’d be committed to several key principles:

    · Smart economic development efforts that prioritize Goshenites and our local businesses, not industrial developers.

    · Rebuilding trust in town government and uniting the Goshen community.

    · Protecting our parks, expanding rec programming and real action on solving Salesian park.

    · Modernized, convenient access to the Town Board, and new proactive public outreach from the board to all of our communities.

    · Real accountability for delivering results and true transparency when we fall short.

And everyone agrees that the Board needs to provide a stronger check on the decisions of the Town Supervisor, who has given himself raises totaling more than 50 percent over the last three years.

I’m definitely a newcomer to running for office, but have been deeply involved in our community for years. I am a Goshen small business owner who is a member of the Goshen and Orange County Chambers of Commerce and Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress.

Additionally, I serve on the Vision Hudson Valley Placemaking Committee, where we work with communities throughout the county to create public spaces that bring citizens together and make business districts more vibrant. I’ve volunteered as publicity manager for TEDx Goshen and met many wonderful Goshen seniors through the JFS Friendly Visitor program.

I am also Vice President of the Board of Directors of Beautiful People, a nonprofit that provides sports programs for disabled children here in Goshen, as well as in Warwick and Middletown.

My opponents, who have been on the Town Board for more than 15 years, will tell you to avoid bringing in new blood. I’m asking Goshenites to make their own decisions. My detailed plan, which can be found at www.jeremyforgoshen.com, is guided by the principles of vision, community, integrity and accountability. Goshen’s residents and business owners are always welcome to email me at jeremyingoshen@gmail.com.

I look forward to serving the community and empowering the people of our town to connect in ways that make Goshen even greater than it is today. Our best days are truly ahead of us.
