When Steve met Rachel

Chester Steve Neuhaus of Chester and Rachel Volinski, formerly of Mattituck, Long Island, and currently of Washington, D.C., are pleased to announce their engagement. Miss Volinski is a graduate of Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla. Steve is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary (bachelor’s degree) and Marist College (MPA). Miss Volinski has been working for the Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives for the past three years. Mr. Neuhaus is currently serving the community of Chester as town councilman, in addition to serving as Republican Party chairman and vice-president of Taylor Recycling in Montgomery. Miss Volinski will be relocating to Orange County, and the couple will live in Chester. A 2007 wedding is planned. The proposal and more Rachel and Steve flew to Naples, Fla., to spend a weekend on the beach. When Steve picked Rachel up from the airport, they immediately headed to the beach for some afternoon fishing. Unbeknownst to Rachel, Steve attached the ring to the end of her fishing line and cast it into the Gulf of Mexico. As Rachel reeled in the line and realized what was at the end, Steve got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. The two then spent the weekend celebrating with friends and family and, of course, four more days of fishing. Steve and Rachel are engaged to be married after only six weeks of dating. However, their love has proven that there really is such a thing as love at first sight. The two met in June 2003 at a Republican fundraiser in New York City. Rachel, who attended by herself, was invited to join Steve’s group of colleagues and friends. They all joined together for dinner following the event and then went their separate ways at the end of the evening. However, Rachel and Steve remained in contact over the last three years, occasionally reuniting at political events. Six weeks ago, Steve and Rachel met up for a weekend to catch up. It took only 24 hours from seeing each other for them to realize something was very different from how it had ever been before. Five days later, Steve attended Rachel’s confirmation ceremony to the Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., and met her parents. They then spent the next few weekends together in either Washington, D.C., or Chester. Without Rachel knowing, Steve drove out to the East End of Long Island to have dinner with her parents and ask her father’s permission. Since Rachel’s parents were engaged after two weeks of meeting each other, and have recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, there was no hesitation about the idea that there truly is such a thing as love at first sight.
