After working tirelessly for months, two teams from Goshen’s Kennett School of Gymnastics earned gold medals at the New York State Championship in Syracuse this April.

“From top to bottom, everyone comes in with a hard working attitude, and that attitude pays off,” said coach John Smales.

Kennett’s Xcel Bronze team, a division for ages 6 - 8, and Xcel Platinum team, a division for ages 12 -16, took first place. Both were undefeated all season.

Multiple gymnasts also took home medals for competing in individual categories.

Six-year-old Emerson Parrington broke a gym record — achieving the highest score of all Bronze-level Kennett’s gymnasts ever. “She is the youngest ever state champion from Kennett’s” said Smales.

The following Kennett’s Xcel Bronze gymnasts took gold medals individually:

• Emerson Parrington: first place in beam, first place all around

• Harper Hindspeter: first place in vault, first place in floor

• Adelyn Sarno: first place in beam

• Elizabeth Zhepack: first place in bars

Platinum team member Allison Torres was the highest scorer in the state and ranks number one in the country all around. She scored a 39/40 at the competition.

The Platinum team now ranks in second place all around in the country. Kennett’s Xcel Platinum gymnasts who took gold medals individually are:

• Allison Torres: first place in bars, first place in vault, first place in beam, first place in floor, first place all around

• Emily Jennings: first place in bars, first place in floor

• Eleanor O’Neil: first place all around

• Paige Gandolfini: first place in vault, first place in beam

• Avery Flynn: first place in vault, first place in floor, first place all around

On May 22, they will compete at the Regional Competition in Shrewsbury, Mass.
