Goshen swimmers place fourth in championship meet

    GOSHEN — The Goshen girls swimming and diving team finished their fourth season with much success. At the Division II OCIAA Championship meet, the team placed fourth out of 10 teams.
    The 200-yard medley relay team, which includes swimmers Alexandria Barnes, Emma Melley, Annie Shih, and Rachel Shih, took first place with a time of 1:54.21. Individual swimmer Emma Melley took first place in the 200-yard freestyle competition with a time of 2:02.73.
    During the season, seven swimmers, Alexandria Barnes, Emma Melley, Korianne Moore, Maya Northrup, Grace Rocchio, Annie Shih, and Rachel Shih, qualified to compete in the preliminary portion of the Section 9 Championship meet, held on Nov. 1. Of these swimmers, A. Barnes, E. Melley, A. Shih, and R. Shih qualified for the Section 9 finals meet on Nov. 3. These four swimmers generated a score of 113 to place 11th out of 19 teams.
    During this meet, Emma Melley met the qualifying time for the 100-yard butterfly for the NYSPHSAA Championship swimming and diving meet that begins on Friday, Nov. 16.
