Pizza farm adds spice to Mountco plans

A pizza farm a circle of land divided into pizza-like slices, with a different crop planted in each slice. Pizzas are made out of the ingredients harvested from the circle. One of the first pizza farms was established by Darren Schmall in Madera, California, and more have popped up all over the Midwest. Sometimes a small restaurant or food bar is put up in the middle of the farm. The farms offer opportunities for schoolchildren, camp groups, and adults to learn about gardening and growing. Sometimes they include petting zoos, hayrides, or mazes to explore. The farms might be owned by one farmer or run by a coop. They are seen to have benefits to both health and the environment. Locally grown produce is becoming a popular alternative to processed foods or foods transported over long distances, requiring great expenditures of fuel.
