GOSHEN — The Goshen High School Odyssey of the Mind team placed second at the state level on Saturday, March 18. They will again perform Problem III Ancient Egypt when they compete in the World Finals from May 24 to 27 at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. The task of the Division III team, consisting of seven freshmen, was to create an original performance that included a scene in ancient Egypt. The performance had to include works of art and artifacts, a plot twist, and an explanation about how or why an ancient Egyptian architectural structure was constructed. In addition to the performance, the team also participated in Spontaneous, which is an on-the-spot thinking competition that counts for 100 points. The team members are: Kiersten Ellefsen, Alex Finkelstein, Rachel Jordan, Ryan Kish, Maddie Laskoski, Sara Laskoski, and Katie MacDonald. At the World Final, the team will compete with students from other states and countries such as Canada, China, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Poland and Singapore. “The team is very excited,” said Coach Beth Laskoski. “They are all great friends who have worked hard to perfect their craft, and have achieved wonderful results.”
