Ms. Monticello Raceway beauty pageant needs more contestants
MONTICELLO It is late in the game for the 18th annual Ms. Monticello Raceway beauty pageant set for Sunday, July 19. But because so few entered the contest, the raceway is making a last-ditch effort to bolster the pulchritude on display that afternoon. According to track assistant general manager Shawn Wiles, only 18 entry forms have been returned to the track as of July 10. “Last year we had 53 girls sign up, and for some unknown reason this year we only have about one-third that number,” Wiles said. “We really can’t understand why we don’t have more inquiries than we do at this time, especially in this economy. There is no cost to enter and the winner will receive $3500, which is a pretty good pay-off for a short span of work.” There are more monetary prizes for the contestants. The first runner-up will receive $1,500 and the second runner-up $1,000. Should there be the usual 30 or 40 entrants, monetary prizes will be given to the finalists. The pageant is now open to any girl 16 years and older, married or single. There will be competitions in both evening gowns and swimsuits. Aspiring entrants must contact John Manzi at Monticello Raceway as soon as possible by calling 794-4100 ext. 455 or e-mailing jmanzi@empireresorts.com.
