Lung Association seeks donated vehicles

The American Lung Association is seeking cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and boats for its Vehicle Donation Program. Vehicles received are sold for the highest value possible to help fund the lung association’s mission. By donating, people have the opportunity to receive a possible tax deduction for 2008, while the association receives continued support for its lung disease research, advocacy, and education initiatives, the association said. Before a vehicle is donated, it must meet the following criteria: The vehicle must be whole (no missing key parts); owners must hold a clear title to the vehicle (no lien); and the vehicle must be accessible by tow truck. By donating a car to the American Lung Association, individuals may be eligible for a deduction on their itemized federal return for the fair market price of the car. “This program makes it practical for people looking for a last-minute tax break,” said Kathy Fackler, American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic CEO. “You can save the costs of maintaining a car you don’t use, or the costs of selling a car. The American Lung Association picks up the car at no cost to the owner.” For more information, call 1-800-LUNG-USA ext. 3 or visit http://www.donateyourcar.org/.
