James Tarpey named chair of Northeast Gas Association

GOSHEN Goshen resident James Tarpey, Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc.’s vice president of operations, has been elected chairman of the Northeast Gas Association (NGA). Tarpey assumes the NGA chairmanship in addition to his primary responsibilities in leading O&R’s electric and gas divisions, which represent the largest single organization in the company, O&R officials said. Tarpey, a registered professional engineer, joined O&R as an assistant electrical engineer in 1972. He held positions of increasing responsibility in Engineering and Operations. He assumed his current position in September 2001. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers , an international non-profit professional organization for the advancement of technology related to electricity, and has authored and presented technical and business papers. In the past two years as the chief volunteer officer of the Middletown YMCA, he has led the expansion of the Y’s services into Sullivan County and to the soon-to-open Y branch in Monroe. NGA is a regional trade association that focuses on education and training, technology research and development, operations, planning and increasing public awareness of natural gas in the northeast U.S.
