Goshen Restoration donates memorial plaque
Goshen n Goshen Restoration Unlimited, an organization committed to the preservation of history and character in the community, has recently donated a historic marker recognizing U.S. Route 6 as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway. There will be a formal rededication of the marker at noon on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the edge of the village on Route 6 across from the Orange County Public Works facility. The roadway is also known as State Route 17M connecting Goshen and Middletown. Route 6 is a transcontinental highway extending 3,652 miles through 14 US states and was officially dedicated as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway on May 3, 1953, in Long Beach, Calif. Goshen Restoration would like to thank Bill Menner for his donation and town and village historian Michelle Figliomeni for her acquisition of grant funds and assistance.
