Goshen — It’s taking time, money, lots of hard work and some sleepless nights, but Goshen volunteers are putting together great events to show the community's appreciation for the Black Dirt farmers who grow our food. Tickets are now on sale for both the Farm Aid Dinner, to be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 1 St. James Place, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the exciting variety show at the C.J. Hooker Middle School, 41 Lincoln Ave., starting at 7:30 p.m. Both events - plus a bake sale sponsored by residents on Murray Avenue beginning at 8:30 a.m. in front of the CVS Pharmacy on Clowes Avenue — will be held on Nov. 5. The cost of the dinner — the menu is chili and lasagna — is $10. Admission for the variety show is $20 or $10 for senior citizens and students. Desserts and drinks, provided by the First Presbyterian Church Mission Committee, will be available during intermission for a small donation. Tickets for either or both events may be purchased at Joe Fix Its, Elsie’s Luncheonette, James Murray’s Florist (213 Greenwich Ave.), Goshen Jewelers (41 North Church St.), Liz’s Place (25 1/2 Green St.), or the First Presbyterian Church (33 Park Place). For more information, call the church office at 294-7991. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for both of the events. Make checks out to the Goshen Ecumenical Food Pantry. The variety show is happy to have Goshen native, Mark Gargiulo, perform on stage. Having an impressive list of opera and musical credits, including singing at Carnegie Hall, Gargiulo has toured both the United States and Europe. Also performing is Warwick’s 55-member Jubilate Choir. Founded in 2006, the choir features talented, dedicated youth in grades 4 to 12, who have shared their talents at Carnegie Hall, local houses of worship and concerts with noted performers. Harmony will be on hand through the talents of The Sweet Adelines and the Dover Boys Barbershop Quartet. Multi-talented local singer/songwriter Evan Teatum will perform. As a bonus, Mary Lee Farris, in duet with the Rev. David Calvin Kingsley, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, will treat the audience to a special performance. To help with immediate assistance to Goshen area farmers, send a check to the Goshen Ecumenical Food Pantry, 33 Park Place, Goshen, NY 10924. Mark it “Farm Aid.”
