Eagle Scout project: A kiosk for Knapp's View

For the past five months, I have been working on my Eagle service project to earn the highest rank of Boy Scouts the eagle award. To do this, I had to come up with an Eagle Service Project that will benefit the public. It first needed to be designed and meet the town’s needs. I planned to build a kiosk, which included two raised gardens. A kiosk is an informational place where people can come and place town events and other things for others to be aware of so they can attend. After I designed and drew out the plans with measurements and as well my plans required me to raise the necessary development funds through community donations. I raised sixty percent of the required money. I had to present my eagle service project to the Chester Town Board of six members. The initial estimated cost at that time for the project was three to four thousand dollars. The town board believed that my project was pretty ambitious considering that all of it must be collected through donations. The BSA eagle board approved my service project in September 2009 , which allowed me to start the construction process. I had to purchase the necessary supplies from various local business of which EP Jansens Nursery gave me a substantial discount. I began to build the Kiosk with help of others, it took about eight weekends to do. I had received many donations and I didn’t reach my goal in donations, so my father, Daniel Poganski helped fund the balance. The town of Chester didn’t have any funds in there budget to assist in my project. We have to give special thanks to Chester Highway department ( supervisor Mr Dave Bell) for their help supplying the top soil, crushed stone and stone dust. Without Mr. Bell’s assistants my project couldn’t have stayed within the construction budget. Now I must go in front of BSA Eagle board to present my finished project and an eagle applications; It will be my honor to be an Eagle Scout if approved. I have earned a total of thirty merit badges to date, which include all twelve required for the rank of Eagle. My current Position in our troop 152 is Patrol Leader, the scoutmaster is Daniel Poganski, my father. When not involved in scouting I enjoy architecture, acting, collecting model sport cars, and outdoor activities such as snow skiing, skating, basketball and bowling. I started scouting at age of eleven, I attained the rank of life scout in 2007. My eagle service project was brought to my attention by my assistant scoutmaster Dr. Donald Littlejohn. I believe this project aligns with the scouting values and principles that would help the community and be useful to the residences of Chester. I researched several different types of kiosks in various different parks around the country. The final design incorporated all the design items necessary to make a complete kiosk to service the people of Chester. The planning process took about 60 hours to complete The site construction to build the kiosk, lay the pavers, wall stone and plant the gardens was 240 hours. The summary of the project and get approvals will be another 20 hours. Site work was done over 8 weekends starting in early October 2009 finishing in late November 2009. The site work was completed with the help of other scouts, scout leaders, family and friends.
