Celebrating 20 years of police service

Goshen Two veteran Village of Goshen police officers were recognized for completing 20 years of service. At the village board of trustees’ meeting on July 27, police Chief James Watt presented Sergeant Daniel Henderson and Patrolman Anthony Pitt with certificates and 20-year service pins. Many of the officers’ co-workers, family, and friends were on hand to celebrate their achievement. Henderson started his career with Orange County Sheriff’s Office on July 8, 1989. On May 1, 1993, he was hired by the Village of Chester Police Department, and on Aug. 24, 1993, he joined the Village of Goshen Police Department. The village police assigned him to the position of detective on May 5, 2002, and four years later, on Sept. 11, 2006, he was promoted to sergeant. Henderson graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 1986. From 1986 to 1989, he served in the United States Army as a military policeman, stationed in Germany. He graduated the Kingston Police Academy In 1989. He is a certified drug recognition expert and has attended the FBI criminal investigators course, the New York State Police sex offense seminar, and the Col. Henry F. Williams Homicide Seminar. In 1994, He was recognized by the Orange County Stop-DWI Program for making the third highest number of DWI arrests in Orange County that year. In 2000, he was nominated the Orange County Police Chiefs Association’s Officer of the Year for his work in identifying and prosecuting a juvenile prostitution ring. Henderson and his wife, Melissa, have three children, Ryan, 15, Christine, 13, and Alyssa, 12. His father, Robert, is a retired second-grade detective with the New York City Police Department, where he served for 26 years. Patrolman Anthony Pitt started his career March 14, 1989, with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He was hired by the Town of Blooming Grove Police in February 1991 and by the Village of Goshen Police Department on July 25, 1995. From April 11, 2007, through July 1, 2009, he served as the department’s schools resource officer for the Goshen Central School District. Pitt graduated from Minisink Valley High School in 1986. From 1986 to 1989 he served in the United States Army as a military policeman, stationed in Fort Wainright, Alaska. He graduated from the Kingston Police Academy in 1989 and is a certified DARE instructor, police general topics instructor, and field training officer. He and his wife, Sherry, have six children: Anthony, 15, Andrew, 12, Alexis, 9, Amanda, 9, Jacklyn, 12, and John, 8. His father is a retired sergeant from the Town of Mount Hope Police Department. His brother, Michael, is a police officer with the City of Newburgh Police Department.
