Chester Academy The following awards were presented to Chester Academy’s 2006 Graduating Class on Friday, June 23: The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award presented to an outstanding Jazz student - Tom Dowling A scholarship in memory of Pat Baptist, a former President of the Chester Jr/Sr. High School PTA, presented to a senior who through their determination has been able to succeed in their education - Raymond Mackey The Robert Benedict Senior Soccer Award to the graduate who exhibited exceptional talent in the soccer program and will be participating in athletics on the college level. Robert Benedict is a 1982 graduate of Chester High School and played soccer at OCC for two years. He currently plays on the Los Angeles Police Department team. This award is given in memory of Thomas Gargiullo. - Ryan Johnson The Board of Education Graduation Award presented to a student in the Class of 2006 who has demonstrated outstanding overall characteristics throughout high school - a student who will enter a 2-year or 4-year college, and who exhibits those traits which are essential to be successful in college - Diane Lee The Chester Band and Chorus Boosters Award to a graduate who will continue in music. - Tom Dowling The Chester Varsity Club Award to the outstanding senior athletes. - Ruddie Montalvo and Amanda Benitez The Chester Elementary School PTA Award to a graduate who has rendered service to the Chester Community - Nick Schust The Chester Elementary School PTA Academic Improvement Award to a graduate who has demonstrated the greatest overall improvement in grades 9-12 - Michael Collins The Chester Elementary School PTA Art Award to a graduate who has demonstrated outstanding talent in creative art throughout high school - Lauren Favorule The Chester Golden Age Club Award to a graduate who will continue his or her education in the health profession - Amie Becker The Chester Historical Society Scholarship in memory of Marjorie Nerhich, presented to a student who demonstrates keen interest in local history or has shown exceptional improvement in the subject of history - Andrew Cromeek The Chester Kiwanis Humanities Award for outstanding achievements in the areas of music, art or drama - Danielle Englehardt The Chester Sports Fund Annual Award to the boy and girl graduate who have given 100% to their chosen sport while maintaining good scholarship and community awareness - Ryan Bell The Chester Teachers Association Awards to the Honor Graduates in memory of deceased CTA members - Diane Lee and Bryan Van Demark The Chester Teachers Association Scholarship in memory of Florence Roe, presented to a graduate intending to pursue a career in education based on scholarship and citizenship - Kirstylee Rivera Robert L. (Chick) Coleman was an exceptional basketball player and referee who graduated from Chester High School in 1956. This award is presented in his memory by his mother to the basketball player in the Class of 2006 who has exhibited the most positive attitude and sportsmanship - Nick Schust The Samuel T. Conservo Family Associates, Inc. Award for the most outstanding record in commercial subjects with an emphasis on Business and Administration. This award is given in memory of Samuel T. Conservo - Nicole Binder The Terrance Duval Memorial Scholarship presented to a graduate planning on pursuing a career in education - Jeremy Berger The Catherine Edwards Memorial Award presented by the Chester Kiwanis to a graduate who will continue their education - Amanda McCarthy The Former Supervising Principal/Superintendent’s Award in memory of his mother and aunt - two outstanding individuals - and in memory of a former student, all of whom were called from this life during the 1977-78 school year - presented to a member of the Class of 2006 who has demonstrated on a day-to-day basis the ability to meet the challenges which life presents - Eileen Dennehy The Harriet H. Fowler Award to a senior who has shown consistent effort in mathematics - Jeffrey Curtis The GandG Bus Service, Inc. scholarship in memory of George E. Neder, awarded to a top student who has been civic minded throughout their high school years and will continue their education - Diane Lee The Joseph A. Greco Memorial Award presented to the student who has contributed the most to the production of the Hambletonian, the school’s yearbook - Kirstylee Rivera and Melissa Harrington The Daniel L. Guerra Memorial Scholarship awarded to a senior who attended BOCES and who has demonstrated high skills and a good work ethic in a vocational area - Victoria Dibona The Key Bank Award presented to the senior with the highest average in business education subjects - Edison Guzman The Key Club Service Award presented by the Kiwanis Club of Chester - Diane Lee, Ryan Joyce, and Andrew Cromeek The Ladders of Hope Award presented to the individual who has demonstrated those traits of high personal character and dedication to community service that stand as symbols of the lives of those called from this earth on 9/11. The award is presented by the Chester Fire Department to honor the lives of the individuals from the Chester Fire District who were called from this earth that day: Donald Tuzio, Lynne Irene Morris, Thomas Dowd and Thomas P. Holohan - Tom Marchiano The Lucky U Corp Award presented to the senior who has, as a result of persistence and hard work, made a positive difference in his or her life and in the lives of others - Alex Tejera A scholarship in memory of Gerry Mayersohn, to a student who has exhibited persistence, commitment, and sensitivity throughout his or her high school career - Harry Oboyski The Lawrence J. Norwood Memorial Award presented by Trout Brook E and H Co. to the graduate who has maintained the highest average in Physics - Bryan Van Demark The Orange County Community College Alumni Association - Luella Delevan Scholarship which is presented to an outstanding graduate who will be continuing their education at OCC - Andrew Marsh The Richard W. Prosser Memorial Award to a graduate exhibiting excellence in Math, and attending a 4-year college in the fall - Ryan Joyce The Alice P. Roselli Memorial Award by the Migliorato and Roselli families for the graduate who has excelled in foreign language and who has demonstrated respect for the environment and the global community - Tom Dowling The Domenic J. Roselli Award presented by the Migliorato and Roselli families given to a graduate who will attend one of the service academies, participate in ROTC or who will major in engineering - Chris Lys The Henry W. and Joan T. Ruback Memorial Award to the graduate with the highest 4-year average in Mathematics - Bryan Van Demark The Paul G. Ruback Memorial Scholarship. Paul Ruback was a firefighter and former Chester High School graduate who lost his life while serving others on September 11, 2001. This award is given in his memory by his wife Lynne Ruback to two students who are continuing their education - Diane Lee and Bryan Van Demark The Catherine Schumaci Memorial Award granted to the senior who has shown significant improvement in English skills over four years - Samantha Aversa The Luman W. Smith Memorial Award granted to the senior who has shown significant improvement in English skills over four years - Diane Lee The John Philip Sousa Band Award to the outstanding band member - Mariya Dragan The Noel Spencer Family Scholarship to a boy or girl graduate who has served the community through involvement in the Church, Boys or Girls Club, Scouting, Food Pantry, or other service clubs - Charles Doyle The Sugar Loaf Engine Co. Award to a senior submitting an outstanding writing project - Tom Dowling The Officer Douglas Mackey Memorial Scholarship Award presented by the Town of Chester Policeman’s Benevolent Association to a graduate who plans to pursue a career in law or criminal justice - Andrew Marsh The Rudolph Vallet Memorial Science Scholarship awarded to two graduating seniors from Chester Academy who is going on to pursue a degree in science, a science-related field, or education - Tom Dowling and Heddie Abdamoodie The Ross P. Vero Memorial Award for excellence in the Participation in Government course - Jessica Kaarlson An award in memory of Hank Walther, sponsored by his family, presented to the senior who has maintained the highest batting average during the season, having participated in at least 7 softball games - Amanda Benitez The Walton Engine and Hose Co.
