    William J. McGreevy of Chester died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at home with his loving family by his side. He was 71.

    Son of the late John McGreevy and the late Lillian Byrnes McGreevy, he was born April 4, 1944, in the Bronx.

    He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a detective in the New York Police Department (NYPD), retiring out of the 32 PCT Squad in 1986. He was member of the Orange County Shields, FOP and the NYPD Emerald Society.

    Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary C. (Kozik) McGreevy; his children, William J. McGreevy and his wife, Maryann, of Northport L.I., N.Y., Tara Desharnais and her husband, Michael, of Cornwall-on-the-Hudson, Tricia Makuen and her husband, Kevin, of Goshen, and Maureen Renaghan and her husband, Matt, of Harrington Park, N.J;. seven grandchildren, Owen and Kieran McGreevy, Lillian and Ava Desharnais, Charlotte Makuen, and Jack and Matthew Renaghan; sisters, Patricia McGreevy-Carr and her husband, Thomas Carr, of Yonkers, N.Y., and Elizabeth Pipa and her husband, Albert, of Pleasantville, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Paul Kozik and his wife, Cyndy, of Milford, Conn.; his nephews, Christopher and Timmy Pipa, Michael Kozik, and John Paul Napolitano; and niece, Kelly Kozik.

    Visitation was held Jan. 12 at Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 13 at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, Chester. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New York City PBA Widows' and Children's Fund.
