William H. Meyer

William H. Meyer of Warwick passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 8, 2023, at Valley View Center for Rehabilitation in Goshen. He was 81 years old.

Born in New York City on March 22, 1941, he was the son of Hermann D. and Anna (nee Luhrs) Meyer.

William proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 25th Infantry Division, serving from the “Tropic Lightning” Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 1958 to 1964.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, William was a bus driver for Continental Trailways and Shortline. He retired as a driver with MABSTOA. He was a Transport Workers Union Local 100 union representative.

William then went on to work at St. Anthony Community Hospital in the purchasing department and retired from there. He also volunteered with the Warwick Valley Ambulance Corps as an EMT and EMT instructor.

He was a member in good standing of the American Legion Post 214, Warwick.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sally Anne Valenson Meyer; daughter Jennifer Christian and her husband David of Warwick; son James D. Meyer and his wife Christan of Warwick; grandchildren Aliyah Rose Meyer and Anthony James Meyer; sister-in-law Kathleen Sharpe of Maybrook; nephews: William Sharpe of Maybrook, Christopher Sharpe (Michele) of Montgomery, Kevin Sharpe (Valerie) of Scotchtown and John Meyer of Hawaii; nieces: Nancy Meyer of Oregon, Danielle Sharpe of Scotchtown and Emily Sharpe of Montgomery.

Bill was predeceased by his brother Herbert D. Meyer and nephew Ryan Sharpe.

Visitation was held Feb. 16 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

A funeral service will be on Friday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
