Ruth Helen Lorenz of Chester died on July 22, 2023, at Sapphire Nursing Home in Goshen. She was 107 years of age.
Ruth was the widow of Edward H. Lorenz.
Ruth was a 27-year Chester resident and a retired secretary for the Lutheran School of Flushing and Bayside in Queens.
She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Middletown and the Chester Golden Age Club, where she celebrated many birthdays.
Ruth was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter Susan F. Lorenz of Yaphank and her grandchildren Sara Shapiro Aronson, Deborah Shapiro DiPaola and Cynthia Lorenz Woerdeman.
Her great-grandchildren Jessica Arunson, Samantha Woerdeman and Nathan Woerdeman, along with her nieces Jean Callahan, Catherine Mendygraw and Ellen Gallagher, survive her.
Ruth was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Lorenz and her son Joseph E. Lorenz both of Chester. She was also pre-deceased by her siblings Charlotte Hildebrandt and John Hildebrandt.
A visitation will be held Friday, July 28, between 3 and 6 p.m., at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe.
Services will be held Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 391 Mt. Hope Road, Middletown (845 342-1963).
Cremation will follow at Oxford Hills Crematory under the immediate care and supervision of Brendan & Thomas Flynn.
