Frederick C. Smith Jr. of Clarks Summit, Pa. (formerly of Goshen, N.Y.) died peacefully on Wednesday morning, Jan. 13, 2021, at Willowbrook Place Assisted Living. He was 98 years old.

Fred was the widower of Edith H. Smith.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Frederick C. Smith Sr. and Isabel Wolstenholme Smith.

Prior to retirement, he was treasurer and sales agent for the Archbald Taylor Insurance Co. in Middletown, N.Y.

He was a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia and a lifelong Eagles and Phillies fan.

Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served during World War 2.

He was a lifelong Rotarian; served on the Board of the YMCA; was active in Meals On Wheels; was a S.C.O.R.E. volunteer; and was a member of the University Club, all in Middletown, N.Y.

Fred was also active in leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America and served as a deacon and elder at The First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, N.Y.

Fred was a devoted and loving husband and family man and proud father of three children, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter Pamela Smith Moshier (Walter) of Forest City, Pa.; grandson William W. Drew, Jr. (Amanda) of Wethersfield, Conn., and their children Kellie and Abigail; grandson Christopher F. Drew (Katie) of Nashville, Tenn., and their children Elliott and Everson. He is also survived by a son, Bruce F. Smith (Ida) of Hazleton, Pa.; granddaughter Michele B. Perrin (David) of Haddon Heights, N.J., and their children Julian, Noelle and Sienna; granddaughter Carly A. Caraluzzi (Stephen) of Tampa, Fla., and their daughter Clara; also a nephew, several great nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Jeanne Smith and his sister Phyllis Greenhaugh.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at The First Presbyterian Church in Goshen at a future date and time to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. in Clarks Summit, Pa.
