Members of Augustus van Horne Ellis Camp #124 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War held a Memorial Day service for Colonel Alexander Wilkin, of the 9th Minnesota Infantry, who was buried in Slate Hill stand after being killed in the Battle of Tupelo in 1864. Members of the group are descended from Union veterans or just want to memorialize them.
