Neversink Museum presents silent classic movies

Kick off the 4th of July holiday with a bang! Bring your family for a fun evening of comedy and slapstick-filled silent classic films at the The Neversink Valley Museum of History and Innovation on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

Gretchen Weerheim, executive director, will be hosting a screening of a selection of D.W. Griffith’s Comedy Classic, “Sally of the Sawdust” (silent, black & white, 113 minutes) featuring W.C. Fields at the D&H Canal Visitor’s Center, 58 Hoag Road, Cuddebackville (just off Route 209). Refreshments will be served.

Fields stars as Professor Eustace McGargle, a con man who becomes the unlikely guardian of an orphaned circus waif named Sally (Carol Dempster). Intending to return her to her grandfather, McGargle discovers that Sally’s grandfather sends the cops after him, and that Sally has fallen in love with a socialite.

Admission is a suggested donation of $5 to fund the museum’s educational programs.

The Neversink Valley Museum is open on Sundays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and by appointment through Oct. 31.
