Mini art bazaar to be featured at awards gala

NEWBURGH — An awards gala to celebrate the Orange County NY Arts Council's 20th anniversary will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at Motorcyclepedia Museum, 250 Lake St., Newburgh.
The gala will include five experiential art installations in DUSKLittle, a new mini interactive art bazaar curated by Cody Rounds and Olivia Baldwin. The Orange County NY Arts Council partnered with DUSKLIT to present the first DUSKLittle.
“We have been cooking up DUSKLittles as a way for DUSKLIT to participate in the broader Hudson Valley community between our annual summer festivals,” said Olivia Baldwin, DUSKLIT co-director. "We value the Council’s work in the county and are thrilled to present our inaugural DUSKLittle as part of the Orange County Art Awards."
The council’s vision is to build a community that celebrates artistic diversity and inspires creative participation.
In conjunction with the arts council, Rounds and Baldwin will pay tribute to the 2017 honorees representing performance art, film, music, dance, and other artistic genres, and to display the breadth and depth of diverse art forms that infuse culture into Orange County.
DUSKLIT received partial funding through the Orange County Arts Council 10th Anniversary Community Arts Grants. The money was directed to supporting regional artists during their annual event this past July.
DUSKLittle artists include:
Amy Lewis Sweetman | Warwick
Heidi Lanino Bilezikian | Warwick
Kyle Cottier | Beacon
Vernon M. Byron | Newburgh
Milkweed Poetry | Richie Kersten, Wendy Insinger, John F. Simon | Sugar Loaf
Hudson Valley contemporary multi-media artist Aurora Robson designed the award that the council will present to honorees.
The gala will include a signature drink and raffle prizes. Proceeds will support the council’s diverse programs.
This year’s honorees are being recognized for their exceptional body of work, for their respective achievements and their passion for their craft. They are:
Robert Whitman | Performance Art | Warwick
Barbara De Fina | Film | Cornwall
Jimmy Sturr | Music | Florida
Angela Prictoe | Youth with Exceptional Promise | Monroe
Gala tickets are $75 for members and $110 for non-members. The ticket price includes the award ceremony, music, hors d’ouevres, dinner, beer and wine provided by Loughran’s of Salisbury Mills. Tickets are available online at ocartscouncil.org.
The Art Awards are supported in part by Guidecraft, Orange Bank and Trust, Orange and Rockland, Crystal Run Healthcare and Orange Regional Medical Center.
