Rose Rappa

Rose Rappa of Middletown passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021. She was 84 years old.

Rose was born Feb. 4, 1936, in New York City. She was the daughter of Michael and Phyllis (DeLeo) DiPenta. She was married to Benedetto Rappa.

Rose Rappa, devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Rose grew up in New York City, the second of eleven children, where she developed a strong will to persevere and live a full life.

A fierce protector of her family, and an inspiration, she worked tirelessly to provide them every opportunity in life.

A friend to many, over the years she enjoyed working in a variety of occupations and seized upon every opportunity to meet new people from different walks of life and learn about the world.

She is survived by her children: Vincent Rappa and wife Jane of Chester, Michael Rappa and wife Lynda of Raleigh, N.C., Joseph Rappa of Pine Bush and Joanne Rittendale and husband Louis of Goshen; brothers: Salvatore DiPenta, Joseph DiPenta, Vincent DiPenta and Michael DiPenta; sisters: Angela D’Angelo, Yolanda Graziosa and Michele Marino; six grandchildren: Stephanie, Vanessa, Emily, Joseph Jr., Christina and Louis, Jr.; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her grandson Nicholas.

Visitation was held Feb. 4 at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church St., Goshen.

A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. John The Evangelist RC Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen.

Burial was in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Rose’s name to the Lung Cancer Association, American Lung Association Donation Processing Center PO Box 11039 Lewiston, Me. 04243-9409.
