Mary Ann “Duffy” Murphy Cummings of Middletown, N.Y., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. She was 88.

Daughter of James and Philomena (Grippo) Murphy, she was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on April 30, 1931. After graduating from Commerce High School in Yonkers, she married the love of her life, Robert Cummings, and the two embarked on one of the greatest love stories ever told for over 67 years until his passing in 2017.

An accomplished florist and chef as well as an award-winning artist and painter, Duffy was a devout Christian who read the Bible daily while praying for her family, friends, and even strangers. She loved to dance, play bridge, and be in the sunshine. A devoted fan of the New York Yankees and Giants, she rarely missed a game on her television (usually with the volume at 100). However, there was nothing she loved more than gathering together with her huge family and being the center of the party.

Duffy is survived by her devoted and adoring children, Robert Cummings Jr. (Cecelia), Mary Ann McIntee (Robert), Phyllis Mentz (William), Kathy McDowell (James), Kimberly Plotkin (Alex), and Richard Cummings (Celeste); grandchildren who worshiped the ground she walked on, Peter, William, Mary Kate, Katherine, Lindsey, Teresa, Stephen, Elizabeth, Jenna, Victoria, Eric, Morgan, Taylor, Emma, Caitlyn, and Meghan; 12 great-grandchildren that she cherished; her brother, James Murphy of Johns Creek, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Dec. 20 at Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 21 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 71 Murray Ave, Goshen, N.Y. Burial followed as she reunited with her husband, Robert, at the Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery, 111 Craigsville Road, Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
