Carmen Angelone

Carmen (Tony) Angelone of Highland Mills entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. at home surrounded by loved one. He was 86 years old - just one week shy of his 87th birthday.

Born on Dec. 16, 1933, Carmen was the son of Pomfilio and Felicetta (DeFelice) Angelone.

Carmen was the youngest of his family. He was predeceased by his siblings: Frank, Joseph, Albert, Andrew, Patrick, Philip, Mary (Arbeiter), Yolanda (Montesano), Anna (Halverson) and Elaine (Duda).

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and by some of his dearest longtime friends and neighbors, who have both loved and cared for him like family.

Carmen Angelone was a true servant of God. He had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. He was an active parishioner at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Highland Mills, where he served as Eucharistic Minister for Masses and as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at local hospitals. He volunteered at St. Patrick’s Church, Sacred Heart School and Church (Monroe) and many other parishes and soup kitchens alongside his dear friends.

Carmen was a fine artist. With a Master’s degree in hand, he was a teacher in the Newburgh School District where he taught art. He also worked in the Fishkill Correctional Facility for many years.

Carmen was an accomplished figure skater. As a teenager, he could be found on a small pond in his neighborhood practicing.

By the time he returned from the Air Force, he had become a competition quality skater. He enjoyed teaching and entertaining his nieces and nephews for several years and was well-known on the competition circle.

In his retirement, Carmen loved to travel the world. He especially liked going to the theater and to museums. Carmen kept busy with the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, where he held the positions of director and sergeant of arms. He was also an active member of the Woodbury Senior Center. With both the Rotary Club and the Senior Center, Carmen enjoyed many great friendships and special social events and outings. After his Rotary meetings, Carmen would regularly go play Texas Hold’Em with the veterans in the nursing home at Castle Point.

In his retirement Carmen also volunteered for several years as a docent for the Storm King Art Center, a job he so loved and appreciated.

Carmen loved playing cards, especially poker; he also loved going to casinos, both near and far, with his closest buddies. He even volunteered at Mount Saint Mary’s College, teaching Texas Hold’em.

Carmen was also in the military. He rose to the rank of sergeant in the Air Force, where he was stationed in Arizona.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church on 26 Hunter St. in Highland Mills.

Interment of ashes will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Funeral arrangements were made by Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh.
