    To the Editor:

No matter what your political affiliation may be, I turn to one of my favorite Latin terms– res ipsa loquitur – the thing speaks for itself. For those who missed last week’s “State of the Union” meeting, allow me to briefly elaborate: The Town of Goshen may be the only municipality in the State of New York that has reduced taxes in the last 6 out of 7 years! You can thank Supervisor Doug Bloomfield and the town board under his guidance for that.

During his administration, Doug has reduced our town debt by 69 percent since 2006. He has achieved this financial stability with a simple mantra – live within your means! His future plans for Goshen are quite simple -- protect jobs and services, keep lowering taxes, improve roads/aging infrastructure, reduce high-density housing and maintain a great quality of life.

And if you feel safe in Goshen, thank John VanDerMolen. John retired as a New York State Trooper after a lifetime career in law enforcement. As a current member of the Goshen Town Board, John is dedicated to ensuring that our police force is ready for future challenges, while maintain that our growing local senior population is taken care of as well.

With respect to zoning and children/sports programs, Rick Florio is the perfect replacement for my seat. As a current Goshen Town Zoning Board Member, Rick will ensure that future town plans will conform to what residents want. And as a dedicated father, Rick is the perfect fit to replace my position on the Goshen Joint Recreation committee -- representing our youth with a strong and caring voice.

I ask that you please come out and vote for these three, great people – individuals who I call my friends – and the candidates who best represent the true values of Goshen. I also thank you for letting me serve you -- our community - for the past few years. It has been an honor.

    Melissa Gallo, Councilwoman
