‘This seems to be nothing more than a solemn occasion turned into a campaign event’

The Town of Chester Recreation Department has circulated a flyer for a Flag Retirement Ceremony to be held at the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021.

On its face, the announcement is one that would be a good promotion for the town; however, the end goal is not.

At the bottom of the announcement, you see that this most solemn event has been sponsored by one of the Republican candidates for Councilperson on the Chester Town Board for this coming election.

How can a town government allow a candidate for town office use town-owned facilities to promote herself for any election?

This seems to be nothing more than a solemn occasion turned into a campaign event.

Bring forth the American Legion or the VFW to run an event of this caliber, not a candidate for office.
