Assemblyman Schmitt to host heroin and opioid legislative round table

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt, in collaboration with Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, will host a heroin and opioid legislative round table on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Woodbury Senior Center from 6 to 8 p.m.

The legislative round table will review the current status of the heroin and opioid epidemic in the Hudson Valley and evaluate community-based and legislative actions that could assist in further combating this ongoing crisis.

Schmitt and Hoovler will hear from individuals with first-hand experience dealing with this epidemic over the last few years including government and non-profit organizations, recovering addicts, family members, law enforcement and first responders.

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “The heroin and opioid epidemic continues to plague our communities and state. My legislative roundtable with Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler will focus on reviewing the current status of this crisis, which has touched every community in my district, and explore additional community-based and legislative approaches to combat and finally end this epidemic.

"The heroin and opioid epidemic is a public health crisis that impacts each and every one of us directly or indirectly," Schmitt said in the press release announcing the event. "I would encourage all members of the community to join the district attorney and me at this legislative roundtable.”

"Back in 2014, I advocated for a three-part approach to combating this epidemic which included education, treatment and enforcement," Hoovler said. "I look forward to discussing more ways with Assemblyman Schmitt that we can help those in our community that are affected by this epidemic.”

The Woodbury Senior Center, is located at 16 County Route 105, Highland Mills.
