Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Town of Chester Senior Center on Laroe Road on Monday, July 10.

Neuhaus was joined at the event by Orange County Legislator John Vero, Town of Chester Supervisor Alex Jamieson, Orange County Director of Community Development Rich Mayfield, Office for the Aging Director AnnMarie Maglione and other dignitaries.

“This is a terrific day for Chester,” Neuhaus said. “We are excited to start building this new and modern facility that will serve the needs of the senior citizens here for years to come. I commend everyone who has come together to make this project possible, especially Chester’s seniors. Their support for the new center and valuable input has been crucial to this process.”

Added Jamieson: “I would like to thank County Executive Neuhaus and the County’s Office of Community Development for their support of this wonderful community project. Without the funds provided by Community Development, this project might not have happened. We are all looking forward to celebrating the opening of our new Senior Center.”

The Orange County Office of Community Development contributed $225,000 in Community Development Block Funds for the Town of Chester Senior Center. The County’s Office of Community Development is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Center will have close to 5,000 square-feet of program space available for seniors in Chester to access and is expected to be completed in approximately six months.
