ACE Mentor Program supports Legoland New York

To the Editor:

The ACE Mentor Program of the Hudson Valley, a newly created chapter of the national mentoring program, supports the proposed Legoland New York project.

Here’s why:

ACE mentors high school students in the architecture, construction and engineering (ACE) fields. Since the beginning of this school year, 80 students representing 20 Hudson Valley school districts are program participants.

Like many other mentoring programs, the biggest challenge is recruiting mentors. Already, Legoland New York’s Phil Royle has helped grow this group through his many contacts. He’s helped our program grow which, giving our students positive exposure to a larger and diverse group of professionals eager to make a difference in their lives. Lego has been used as part of the ACE’s national curriculum for many years. We recognize the “ACE” value of Lego products. Knowing Legoland New York has a tremendous commitment to STEM education, beginning at the youngest of ages, will clearly help to further educate young students in this subject matter.

Legoland will be a great public-private partnership with ACE and local school districts. Early ages through high school, extending beyond our local workforce development in a much needed industry will see the positive impact of Legoland in our backyard.
