— It's not too late to help the Chester Elementary team get to the Odyssey of the Mind in the Worlds competition in Ames, Iowa, May 28-31.

One way is to contribute through http://www.gofundme.com/8brfto.

The team will be collecting baskets to raffle off at their Spaghetti Dinner on May 9. If you would like to donate a basket, email Cynthia Acevedo directly at sugarbees_retail@yahoo.com.

Over 800 teams from around the world will compete in the 35 Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. The competition emphasizes creativity and teamwork and has grown into the largest international creative problem-solving competition worldwide.

Millions of kids have been working hard all year perfecting their solutions to Odyssey problems and competing within their regions and states. Only a few will advance to World Finals — these teams represent the best of the best creative minds.

While the competition is fierce, there is also a feeling of camaraderie among competitors. Many students form life-long friendships that span the U.S. and the globe. At World Finals, teams have the chance to learn about other cultures through a common goal.. to be as creative as they can!

Here's the poem the Chester team wrote about global warming for the state competition, where they had to pile as much weight as possible into a balsa wood box made to special specifications:

Look at all the weight of the world

Look at all the weight of the world

Burning Coal pollutes the air

Green House Effect is unfair

Look at all the weight of the world

Pollution is out of hand at sea

Global Warming affects you and me

Look at all the weight of the world

Acid Rain can melt your brain

Landfills are completely insane

Look at all the weight of the world

Toxic waste can make us die

Excess Transportation puts smog in the sky

Look at all the weight of the world

Garbage is awful, that’s what we think

Chemicals poison the water we drink

Look at all the weight of the world

Destruction will make the world all curled

Look at all the weight of the world

Look at all the weight of the world
