Milkweed opening new exhibit April 27

CHESTER - The Milkweed artist organization is opening a new exhibit with a reception on April 27.
The reception and social viewing of the "Imperatively Light" artwork of Melissa Spiegel and Alanna Floreck is scheduled to take place at it's Romer Alley location between 6-9 p.m. on April 27.
According to its website, Milkweed is an interdisciplinary art and event space dedicated to collaboration and community-building.
One half of the space is an ever-changing gallery, featuring the work of local contemporary artists working in a variety of media.
The second half of the space is a working studio used by the Milkweed Collective and open to the public, which frequently hosts arts and skill sharing workshops.
In this exhibit, Spiegel uses a ‘from the ground up’ approach to create handmade paper and pressed flower collages, focusing on the material itself.
Floreck will be displaying photography from her previous "Primavera" collection featured last year at Caffe a la mode, but this time conveying a new message, complemented by and blending with Melissa's work.
They will also be collaborating on two brand new mixed media pieces specifically for the show.
‘Imperatively Light‘ emphasizes the importance of art that illustrates the softness and simplicities in our world.
During a time when there are extreme hardships and brutalities occurring every day, it Is important for artists to use the creative power to speak out on these events.
The group believes it is also quintessential to have work that is, in essence, aesthetically pleasant, with the hopes of instilling peace and serving as a reminder that the so-called "mundane" is worth looking at in depth.
Live music during the reception will be provided by Shannon Rogers, Dylan Holzhauer, and Dan Wixtrom and Kayla Holterman.
The organization is also planning its "Battle Candle" festival, which is coming Aug. 3.
Interactive Noise Collective (that's the group that runs the Milkweed space these days) has started planning its second annual music festival at the Wickham Woodlands, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 3.
"Battle Candle" will include, music all day, local arts and craft vendors, food trucks, interactive art, all by the backdrop of the beautiful Wickham Lake.
This year INC has joined forces with the village of Warwick and become the Warwick event for the Three Lakes Festival, a series of events aimed at creating more crossover and connection between the three villages (and their lakes) of Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake.
