— The annual Chester Kiwanis Hambletonian 5K Trot through the historic Village of Chester is set for Saturday, May 27, during Memorial Day weekend.
"This is the 23rd year of the 5K race, and because of the community, sponsors and the local newspaper support, we have had continued success each year, said organizer Richard Robillard. "Last year there were nearly 300 registered runners in the race."
Start time for this year's 3.1-mile race is 8:45 a.m. Walkers are welcome. The route is flat and takes the runner along village streets, ending in the community park overlooking black dirt farms.
A trophy will be awarded to the first-place male and female walkers. Trophies are also awarded to the top three overall male and female runners.
Age group awards, raffle prizes, refreshments, and a free full breakfast is available for all runners at the conclusion of the race. A tech T-shirt is guaranteed to all pre-registered runners. Race-day registration is available at Chester Community Park from 7:30 to 8:35 a.m.
The entry fee for 5K run/walk is $17 for students and $25 for adults. Proceeds support community and educational projects.
Kiwanis accepts all "newish T-shirts" to be donated to a local summer camp for young children, Braeside in Middletown.
