'Water Protectors' from near and far

| 22 Dec 2016 | 02:05

The Rev. Chris J. Antal stands with a prayer flag Sunday created by members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern and the Greater Newburgh Interfaith Council, at Standing Rock, North Dakota. Antal responded to a call from Chief Arbil Looking Horse, spiritual leader of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations, to join in a day of prayer. Hundreds of clergy and thousands of veterans have converged to stand in solidarity with the "water protectors." Antal is minister of the Rock Tavern UUs and president of the interfaith council. Also on Sunday, the Department of the Army said it would look for alternative routes of the Dakota Access pipeline rather than drilled under a dammed section of the Missouri River.
