— Phil Roggia resigned as Chester village trustee and deputy mayor effective June 30. He will be moving to the state of Florida at the end of the month.

Mayor Phil Valastro thanked him for his long service and wished him well — for the most part. At one point Valastro joked: “I hope it rains every day you’re there.”

He then went on to say: “I appreciate the time and effort you have put in to being Trustee and Deputy Mayor. I hope you and Moira enjoy it down there. We’ll miss you....Thank you very much.”

Valastro moved to appoint Trustee Carole Duffy as new deputy mayor, with approval from the rest of the board.

Chris Battiato, son of former mayor Joe Battiato, announced he would like to be considered for the open seat in the fall. Valastro said a couple of people had already approached him with the same intention.
