Trailside Treats attracts ice cream lovers hungry for spring

GOSHEN — Not only do robins, crocuses, and sunny days let us know that spring is coming. The Trailside Treats opening also awakens senses to the change of season.
The ice cream stand on St. James Place in Goshen — right on the Heritage Trail, across from the St. James Episcopal Church parking lot — reopened on March 12 for the spring and summer season.
The steady stream of customers showed that people are ready to be outdoors. They enjoyed the sunny weather and creamy treats, including homemade hard ice cream, Italian Ice (everyone’s favorite), slushies, vanilla, chocolate, and twist soft serve, and much more.
Travis Boroden of New Hampton was at the stand with his wife, Meghan; daughters, Aubrielle, 4, and seven-month old Mariska; and mother, Robin. He's glad the stand is on the Heritage Trail.
“You get a work-out and then ruin all the benefits with a scoop of ice cream,” he said, sporting a wide grin.
Daniel Vargas said he needed directions from Maybrook to find Trailside Treats.
“I’m glad we found it," he said. "The ice cream is definitely worth the search.”
Stand favorites include Ultimate Chocolate, Coconut Almond Joy, and Cappuccino. Children favor Cotton Candy in both ice cream and Italian Ice. And new this year — a soon-to-be favorite — is homemade Birthday Cake ice cream.
The stand is open seven days a week and accepts credit and debit cards. Look for Trailside Treats on Facebook.
