Smiles, giggles at Kindergarten Festival

GOSHEN — The families of Goshen’s youngest students filled the bleachers in the Goshen High School gymnasium to watch the festivities when Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School hosted its 22nd annual Kindergarten Festival on May 16.
The festival combines physical education with music education. Physical education teachers John Mardyniak and Cheryl Gage work with music teacher Elizabeth Olivo to create the different activities that the students performed during this year’s festival.
Throughout the year, children learn many different skills in an environment filled with music and movement, including listening and directional skills, spatial awareness, auditory sequencing and memory skills and self-expression through movement and music.
Students performed choreographed dances, sang, demonstrated different physical activities and worked with scarves and parachutes during the Festival. The entire Festival was set to music, including “Wipe Out,” “Cha Cha Slide,” “Rainbows Rock” and “Old Brass Wagon.”
