Robert Klein elected as Republican nominee for Chester Town Councilmember, Ward 1

Robert Klein defeated incumbent Robert Courtenay by a vote of 97 (58.79 percent) to 68 (41.21 percent), during the June 23 primary election, to secure the Republican nomination for Chester Town Councilmember, Ward 1.

In his candidate statement, published in The Chronicle, Klein said he was concerned about the Chester Town Board’s lack of financial expertise in reviewing and modifying the town budget for the past two years.

“I want to return to public service to assist the town board to once again do a more thorough job of reviewing and modifying the town budget to keep the resident town tax bills affordable,” Klein said.

Klein will face Courtenay once again in the general election on Tuesday, November 3. In addition to filing as a Republican, Courtenay filed under the Democratic and Working Families parties, he was not primaried as a member of either party.
