Reason to smile: A big donation for Big Brothers Big Sisters

NEWBURGH — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County received a $1,380 donation from Newburgh dentist Lane McEwan.
Dr. McEwan discounted summer teeth whitening services and donated all the profits to children’s charities nationwide through the Smiles for Life Campaign.
The one-on-one mentoring program is currently the only Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the Mid-Hudson Valley, reaching out to children facing adversity and connecting them with trained volunteer mentors who open up new horizons and perspectives, share important life skills, and offer the caring friendship and guidance the children need to succeed.
Dr. McEwan has served as a Big Sister three times, continuously over the past 16 years, and has seen the difference a mentor can make. Her first “Little” has actually gone on to be a dental hygienist, and they recently reunited to catch up with each other.
“We rely on business and community partnerships like this one to keep our programs growing and going strong for kids in need,” said Nancy Kosloski, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “Dr. McEwan’s deep understanding of our mission, and her thoughtfulness and generosity are invaluable to us. This gift not only increases awareness of our mission and work, but also helps us fund a match for an entire year. We are very grateful.”
