— Village of Goshen Police Chief James Watt received a letter from Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School Principal Amy Peluso thanking him and the department for their help in a time of emergency.

A teacher at the school exhibited alarming symptoms indicating the possibility of respiratory or cardiac distress. After her evaluation, school nurse Suzanne Dombrowski decided it was in the teacher’s best interest to call 911.

“What happened from there was nothing short of astounding,” said Peluso.

Within three minutes, Officer Mike Wilson was by the teacher‘s side, assessing her blood pressure and providing her with oxygen. Just two minutes after that, GOVAC — the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps — arrived.

“In a time of crisis, or emergency, you can only pray that what happened today will happen,” Peluso said in her letter. n"Today, my prayers were answered, and my expectations exceeded."

She noted that Officer Wilson “was prompt, thorough, and provided a calming and steady professional assessment” to the teacher.

Chief Watt replied that he has worked with the officer for years and agreed that he lends a calm, professional presence to any task that he’s assigned.

“The Department and community are fortunate that Pt. Michael Wilson has availed himself of the Department’s EMT training and incentive program," Watt wrote. "Michael has been a valuable asset to the Department as an officer, and now as a NYS certified EMT.”

“This is the fourth life that Officer Wilson has saved in the last two or three years,” said Police Commissioner Ed Char. “He’s good at what he does.”
