goshen — Steve Neuhaus, Chester's town supervisor and candidate for county executive, won the Republican endorsement Wednesday night, the most important of the many endorsements he's received so far.

Michael Sweeton, Warwick's town supervisor, was also vying for the GOP nomination.

Neuhaus received his latest endorsement at the Orange County Republican convention held at the new Valeria's Restaurant on Route 17M, on the Chester-Goshen border.

Neuhaus received two other important endorsements in the past week, from the Conservative Party and the Orange County Sheriff. The Village of Florida trustees have also signed on. Earlier in the season he won endorsements from the Independence Party and most local Republican committees.

"I'm so honored to have the endorsement and support of my friends in the Orange County Conservative Party!" Neuhaus wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday night. "They join the Orange County Independence Party and 80 percent of the town and city Republican Committees that have chosen to endorse in supporting our campaign. We all share a common vision for our County: respect the taxpayer; make government more efficient and less costly; and cut red tape so that businesses can grow and hire in our communities. I've proven that we can make this vision work in Chester and I know that together we can make it work for Orange County! Let's keep up the momentum!"
