Middletown. Goshen High School senior Perla Almanzar awarded Junior League scholarship

The Junior League of Orange County has awarded its the 2020 President’s Scholarship to Goshen High School senior Perla Almanzar.

“Education is the key to success and as an organization committed to ‘Women Building Better Communities,’ Perla exemplifies this in her stellar service to the Goshen and Orange County community,” said Danielle Henry, the Junior League’s 2020 President’s Scholarship chairwoman. “I am excited to see the resounding impact and imprint that she will make on this world.”

The scholarship award is $1,000.

In addition to maintaining a high academic record, Perla showed her commitment to her community through volunteer service at Orange Regional Medical Center, Glen Arden Elderly Home, Next Step Ministrie, and as a Sunday School teacher with her church.

“I am sincerely honored and blessed to have been selected as the recipient of the 2020 President’s Scholarship for Volunteer Service,” Perla said. “During this time of uncertainty, this has really brightened my day and makes me get even more excited about the journey I am about to embark on in August as a Fordham University pre-med student.”

“We look forward to seeing all the wonderful things Perla will accomplish and wish her luck with college and beyond,” acknowledged Junior League President Lauren Rowley. “And, of course, secretly hope she may end up back in Orange County and a member of the Junior League to help us continue our important work.”

Orange County high school seniors who applied for the JLOC President’s Scholarship participated in a competitive process detailing how they serve their communities, in addition to demonstrating their academic achievements and plans for higher education.
