GOSHEN — One man was killed and another injured when the car they were traveling in Tuesday evening went off the road, rolled over, and crashed into the Hudson Valley Nursery off Route 17M.
Michael Cotten, 30, of Middletown, died of traumatic injuries after the accident pinned him inside the vehicle, said Goshen Police Sgt. Allen Faust.
The 2003 Acura was laying on its roof when emergency responders arrived on the scene. The accident was reported at approximately 6:40 p.m.
Cotten was extricated from the Acura by Goshen firefighters then transported by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car, André Davis, 23, of Middletown was under observation at Orange Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries as of Wednesday morning.
Faust said the car appears to have been going faster than the speed limit, which was posted at 55 miles per hour. The two were traveling to Monroe, he said.
The car crashed through the fencing of the Hudson Valley Nursery and struck chairs and grills in the parking lot. It rolled over and came to rest on its roof underneath a tent, Faust said.
An investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the crash, he said.
The accident shut down the road for a couple hours, he said.
