CHESTER — A contractor is on site performing deck repairs on a bridge in Chester over State Route 17, NYS Assemblyman Colin Schmitt announced on Monday.
"I am happy to announce that working on your behalf I have coordinated with NYSDOT and the horrible Chester Route 17M bridge over the Norfolk-Southern Railroad is currently undergoing repair work," Schmitt wrote. "My office has been working constantly with NYSDOT to acquire long term solutions to this horrible bridge."
He said he's received "countless complaints" about it.
"I know first hand how bad it is to drive over this bridge, and I know how much it negatively impacts so many of my constituents."
He said the deck repairs will last awhile, unlike the "usual 'cold patch' work that has been done."
Schmitt said a full replacement bridge will still be needed and will be one of his top priorities.
"Thank you to NYSDOT for working with me on this issue and thank you to the working men and women who are doing the work," he said.
