Grueling preparationScience Olympiad is dedicated to improving the interest and quality of science education. To prepare, the team from Goshen dedicates approximately 10 hours a week from October through April competing in several competitions leading up to the New York State Competition. This is in addition to their regular school work, time at home preparing for the competition, and extracurricular activities like sports, music, drama, and National and Junior Honor Society.
The students spend their time exploring topics including biology, chemistry, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, computer science, and engineering in the STEM competition. They gain knowledge beyond curriculum standards and place themselves on the path to success in the fields of technology, engineering, and medicine.
“The coaches are extremely proud of the team’s success so early in the season," said Coach Becky DenDanto. "These students work really hard and devote much of their time to participate in Science Olympiad. Our results are a great sign of the good things to come, and we are all eagerly anticipating our upcoming competitions.”
The teams consist of students from grade 6 through 12. They are lead by DenDanto and assistant coaches Laura Muller, Warren Young, and Christina Pahucki, with generous support from a large group of parent and community volunteers and from local businesses, including Lanc & Tully, Nugent & Haeussler, M&T Bank and Media Vision Advertising.
