Goshen students inducted into NHS National Honor Society

GOSHEN — On Oct. 17, Goshen High School students were inducted into the Goshen High School chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS).
The 54 new inductees joined current National Honor Society members at the induction ceremony, held in the Goshen High School auditorium, which recognized their high academic achievement, commitment and involvement in extracurricular activities, community service achievements and high level of character.
Goshen High School Principal Kurtis Kotes welcomed the audience to the induction, while National Honor Society Advisor Janice Marsiglio introduced the inductees and Advisor Patricia Brown led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and presented the Officers.
National Honor Society President Nikolas Vanderhoof, Vice-President Nicole Irace, Secretary Halle Anderson and Treasurer Nikhil Ramanathan led the Candle Lighting Ceremony that recognizes the four traits of an inductee: leadership, scholarship, service and character. The Presentation of Membership Cards and Pins was delivered by Principal Kotes with the assistance of Daniel Connor, superintendent; Patricia Lercara, assistant principal; and Gregory Voloshin, assistant principal/director of health, physical education and athletics.
Each inductee signed the National Honor Society Scroll and were administered the National Honor Society Pledge by their principal.
NHS distinguishes, honors, and encourages students who excel at their general education studies and who possess admirable character, attitude and a strong intellect. The 34 students who were inducted have maintained a 92 percent average or better for their high school career, completed a minimum of 60 hours of community service, and are involved in their school community through athletics, clubs or other extra-curricular activities.
