Flowers at Goshen Intermediate fulfill promise of fall planting

GOSHEN — Fourth grade students in Teegan Kennedy’s class at the Goshen Intermediate School were thinking ahead when they planted about 100 daffodil bulbs outside their school this past fall. Now spring is in full bloom — and so are the students’ flowers, which are adding a splash of color to the school grounds after a long, hard winter. The students are at it again this month, busy planting the next round of flowers. Almost 360 marigolds now decorate the grounds around the school sign and front flower beds with the intention of blooming throughout the summer and helping welcome students back to school in September.

“Thanks to generous donations from parents and the PTO, students were able to get outdoors and get their hands dirty, laying down fertilizer and mulch and planting, in order to make Goshen Intermediate School an even nicer place,” said Kennedy.

Students were actively involved in the activity and were able to review their knowledge of plants and life cycles while gardening. The class celebrated Earth Day in the classroom by planting the marigold seeds harvested from last year’s plants, and were reminded that every day should be Earth Day.
